Psalm 86

"Incline thine ear, O Lord, and hear me: for I am poor and needy. Preserve thou my soul, for I am merciful: my God, save thou thy servant, that trusteth in thee. Be merciful unto me, O Lord: for I cry upon thee continually.
Rejoice the soul of thy servant: for unto thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul.

For thou, Lord, art good and merciful, and of great kindness unto all them that call upon thee. Give ear, Lord, unto my prayer, and hearken to the voice of my supplication. In the day of my trouble I will call upon thee: for thou hearest me.
Among the gods there is none like thee, O Lord, and there is none that can do like thy works. All nations whom thou hast made, shall come and worship before thee, O Lord, and shall glorify thy Name.

For thou art great and doest wondrous things: thou art God alone. Teach me thy way, O Lord, and I will walk in thy truth: knit mine heart unto thee, that I may fear thy Name. I will praise thee, O Lord my God, with all mine heart: yea, I will glorify thy Name forever. For great is thy mercy toward me, and thou hast delivered my soul from the lowest grave. O God, the proud are risen against me, and the assemblies of violent men have sought my soul, and have not set thee before them.

But thou, O Lord, art a pitiful God and merciful, slow to anger, and great in kindness and truth. Turn unto me, and have mercy upon me: give thy strength unto thy servant, and save the son of thine handmaid. WCF - SHORTER CATECHISM

1. What is the chief end of man?

Man's chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him for ever.



Proofs:

1 Cor. 10:31. "Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. "

Romans 11:36. "For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever."

Psalm 73:25-28. "Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire besides thee. My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart and my portion for ever. For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a-whoring from thee. But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord God, that I may declare all thy works."






Obviously there are many more verses in Holy Scripture that support the catechism, but I will most likely stick to 3-5 verses.
